Just about 70 km southwest of Tripoli, near Gharyan City, lies Wadi Ghan Dam, a quiet open place surrounded by hills and calm water. It’s one of those spots where you can go with friends or family, relax for a day, and enjoy nature without the noise of the city.

I went there for fishing and stayed until evening. It was a friendly and peaceful place, with families and small groups scattered around the dam, everyone enjoying their time.
The area is huge, and surprisingly, the water is full of fish. Even kids were catching fish easily, laughing and having fun.

Here, you’ll mostly find only one type of fish, the Common Carp. These fish are strong and grow really big during the season, sometimes 3 to 7 kilograms each. Because carp are tough and adapt easily, they’ve taken over the dam, which is why you won’t see other types of fish here.
People often come for a day trip. They fish, barbecue by the water, and sometimes camp overnight near the dam. It’s a great spot for a calm weekend, especially for those who love fishing or just want some quiet time in nature.

One thing to note is that the water is very muddy. The whole area around the dam is full of soft mud, so I didn’t have the courage to swim. Honestly, it doesn’t look safe for swimming, especially with how slippery and deep it gets near the edges.

But the sunset view makes everything worth it. As the sun goes down, the light spreads over the water and the hills turn golden. It’s quiet, calm, and beautiful, a perfect way to end the day.

If you ever visit Wadi Ghan Dam, bring your fishing gear, food, and water. There aren’t shops nearby, so it’s better to be prepared. It’s a great place for a short trip, simple, peaceful, and full of life.
